Turn that unusable space into something you’ll be proud of!

Boulder retaining walls, also known as rock walls, or simply retaining walls, have many uses for a home owner.  The most important being, preventing any down slope movement in your land.  They provide support for vertical and near-vertical grade changes.  It’s not uncommon, especially in the Spokane, WA area, to see homes that have been built on a hill, mountainside or even in residential areas, the land can still be multi-leveled.

The main purpose of any retaining wall, be it boulder retaining, rock wall or any other type of hardscape, is to battle gravity.  However, they can be a great way to take an unusable space and turn it into something amazing!

Don’s Affordable Landscape has been installing retaining walls for almost 20 years now and they know how to look at a piece of land, listen to your needs and create the best solution for you, while keeping your budget in mind!

No area is too big, or too small.  Boulder retaining walls, rock walls, can add a robust point of interest to any section of land.  There are many options you can include within your new retaining wall, too:

  • Add layers with steps to create usable yard space.
  • Plant flowers, gardens or some easy to care for, desert landscaping.
  • Put in a water feature.
  • Create another patio area.  This is a great way to add interest and space in small yards.
  • Protect your property from slide offs.

The benefits of a boulder retaining wall, or rock wall, is that “weeping holes” are already there.  With brick walls or concrete, those “weeping holes”, need to be installed.  Another benefit of using boulders, depending on the slope involved, larger boulders can be used at the base(s) as opposed to several rows of brick or concrete.  Boulder retaining walls, rock walls are more affordable because they are “gravity walls”.  They don’t require an anchor or an underground base to help stabilize them.
